About Global Open University

The Global Open University of Nagaland was set-up in the year 2006 with the aim to introduce job oriented, employment centric and vocational education in the country’s North-East region in the general aspect and in Nagaland particularly. The Nagland State Government has adopted bold steps to strengthen the Global Open University activities, to enable the (WIBP) World Institution Building Programme to create a decent infrastructure in the state of Nagaland in a general aspect and at Dimapur, Kohima and Wokha in particular.

The campus of the Global Open University has great academic and physical infrastructure with laboratories, workshop, library and a computer lab. The Global Open University Act of Nagaland allows the Global Open University to provide online programs not just across India but abroad as well. The Global Open University has successfully managed to become a groundbreaker in the country by bringing in the concept of TeL – Technology Enabled Learning and online examinations on demand to carry out its mission of allowing for means for ‘self styled’ and ‘self paced’ learning, anytime and anywhere.

The Global Open University was set-up by the Nagaland Government to accomplish the objectives mentioned below:

- Providing academic programs that are need based by giving vocational and professional orientation of various courses.
- Democratizing the concept of higher education by taking education to the student’s doorstep.
- Accommodating those people who are for certain reasons unable to get their entry into the formal education system.
- Encouraging and building online and distance education in the country as well as abroad.
- Expansion of the opportunity of Higher Education.

The Global Open University for now has thirty departments for carrying out various programs including Master’s, Doctoral, Diploma, Bachelor’s and Diploma programs in Post Graduation, in Management, IT, Paramedical, Engineering, Tourism and Hospitality. The Global Open University approached the Nagaland Government to allow the campus of animal husbandry and civil hospitals to be utilized for holding practical and theory classes of PG, UG and various other research based programs.
